Bus kills passerby in Sylhet
A passerby was run over by a bus at Nazirbazar in Sylhet on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Shamsul Islam, 32, of Dashgar village in the Dakhin Surma upazila. Witnesses said a speeding bus ran over Shamsul, leaving him dead on the spot around 11:30 am.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy, said Khairul Fazal, officer-in-charge of Dakshin Surma Police Station. However, police could not seize the bus as its driver managed to flee the scene, he added.
‘Missing’ elderly man found dead
Police on Saturday recovered the body of an elderly man, 24 hours after he went missing, from a pond beside Hasnabad bazar in Cumilla.
The deceased was identified as Mortuza Mia, 70, of Keari village. Locals said Mortuza went missing on Friday morning. Later on Saturday afternoon, his body was found floating in the pond. Officer-in-charge ofMonoharganjPolice Station Md Anwar Hossain said the body had injury marks in the head and was sent to CumillaMedical College Hospital for an autopsy.
AL special extended meeting July 7
The next special extended meeting (3rd phase) of Awami League will be held on July 7 at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official residence Ganobhaban.
Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League President, will preside over the meeting to be held at 11am on the day, a press release on Saturday.
Members of AL central working committee and advisory council, and AL union-level presidents and general secretaries and Union Parishad chairmen from Rangpur, Khulna, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions will join the meeting. AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader requested the presidents and secretaries of his party’s district and city units concerned to send the names of participants to the AL President’s Dhanmondi political office. He also asked the participants to remain present at the extended meeting in due time.
Meeting of JS body on social welfare ministry held
The thirty-fourth meeting of parliamentary standing committee on Ministry of Social Welfare held today at Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban here with Md Mozammel Hossain in the chair.
Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon, Peer Fazlur Rahman, Md Abdul Matin, Begum Lutfa Taher and Syeda Sayera Mohsin attended the meeting, among others.
The committee discussed in detail the recently floated Children (correction) Bill, 2018, and recommended scrutinising the matter more and submitting a revised report on this.Social welfare secretary, senior officials of the ministry and JS secretariat were present on the occasion, among others.
Call to prepare lists of all anti-liberation forces
Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan yesterday demanded preparation of a list of anti-liberation forces including, Razakars and Al-Badrs to eliminate the anti-liberation forces from the country and protecting the independence of the country.
“Not only freedom fighters, the government should publish lists of all the anti-liberation elements including, Razakars and Al-Badrs,” he said. The minister said this while addressing a press conference held at
Swadinata Hall, Segunbaghicha in the capital.
Sramik-Karmachari Peshajibi Muktijoddah Samannay Parishad, Antorjatik Juddahporadh Ganobichar Andolon and Muktijoddar Santan o Projonmo Samannay Parishad jointly organised the press conference.
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman announced the six-point demands to bring the Independence of the country, he said.
