Two JMB men held in Bogura

Bogura: Detectives in a drive arrested two members of banned militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) along with arms from Adamdighi upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.

The arrestees were identified as Rubel Hossain, 27, and Abdul Bari, 25, of Shibganjupazilain Chapainawabganj district. Tipped off, a team of detectives conducted a drive in the area and arrested two members of the banned outfit from Pouta Primary School area, said Sanatan Chakrawarty, additional superintendent of Bogura police and in-charge of district police (media).

They also recovered two firearms and 12 rounds of bullets from their possession, he added.

Five ‘robbers’ held in Bagerhat

Bagerhat: Police in a drive arrested five suspected robbers from Mongla port area here early yesterday, reports UNB.

The arrestees were identified as Abdul Malek, Babul Hossain, Shahidul Islam, Babul Mia and Faruk of Sharankholaupazila.

Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested them early in the morning, said Pankaj Chandra Roy, superintendent of Bagerhat police.

Police also recovered some arms used during robberiesfrom their possession.

Cheering turns deadly for minor Argentine fan in Feni

Feni: A minor boy was killed as a pick-up van ran over him at Tulatoli in Sonagazi upazila on Saturday night, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Ibrahim Rahat Russel, 10, son of Obaidul Haq of Swarajpur village in the upazila.

Moazzem Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sonagazi Police Station, said the fans of Argentina football team brought out a rally with 200 motorbikes and 10-12 pick-up vans around 5 pm ahead of their team’s football match against France. At one stage, Russel ran over by a pick-up van as he fell from it while enjoying with others around 7:30 pm, leaving him injured.

Later, he was taken to the Sonagazi Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead.

Shibganj UNO passes away

OUR CORRESPONDENT, Chapainawabganj

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Shibganj in Chapainawabganj district Md Shafiqul Islam died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital under treatment early yesterday.

He had been suffering from fever for a couple of days, said sources.

He breathed his last at 3.30am leaving behind his wife and a one and half years old child. His first namaz-e-janaza was held at Shibganj Stadium at noon and later, his body was sent to his native village Nahmudpur in Gurudaspur upazila of Natore district.

Deputy commissioner of Chapainawabganj Md Mahmudul Hasan, mayor of Chapainawabganj municipality Md Nazrul Islam, mayor of Shibganj municipality Karibul Hoque Razin attended his janaza, among others.

7 ‘gamblers’ held in Magura

Magura: Police in a drive arrested seven alleged gamblers from Mashakhali village in Mohammadpur upazila on Saturday night, reports UNB.

The arrestees were identified as Mehedi Molla, 26, son of Abul Molla, Manik Molla, 30, son of Lutfur Molla, Tariqul, 27, son of Sultan Biswas, Tariqul Haq, 28, son of Rahman Molla, Rajab Ali, 40, son of Mohammad Molla, Yad Ali, 28, son of Ratan Ali and Alamin, 30, son of Rezaul of the village.

Acting on information, a team of police conducted the drive in the area and arrested the seven ‘gamblers’ when they were gambling in the area at night, said Tariqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station.

The arrestees had long been involved in gambling and different unsocial activities, he added.

Cheques distributed among poor people in Panchagarh

Cheques of Taka 6.40 lakh were distributed among 80 poor people four mosques and two temples in Boda and Debiganj upazila of the district on Saturday.

Advocate Nurul Islam Sujon MP distributed the cheques among the beneficiaries from his own fund at a simple function at Debiganj upazila parishad hall room this noon.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ramkrishno Barman presided over the function.
