Tk 741cr DU budget announced

Dhaka University (DU) Senate, has proposed a Tk741.13 crore budget for Fiscal Year 2018-19 in the annual DU senate session (Budget) held on Wednesday.

Treasurer Professor Kamal Uddin placed the budget, along with the Tk738.71cr revised budget which was passed Tk664.37cr earlier by Senate for Fiscal Year 2017-18.

The budget session senate meeting was held at Sir Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban around 3pm, with Vice-chancellor Professor M Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.

We are hopeful to arrange Tk628.31cr from the University Grants Commission (UGC) for next year’s budget and Tk71.28cr will come from university’s own sources. The budget will likely have a deficit of Tk41.54cr, the DU treasurer told the senate. Tk432.96cr has been allocated for salary and allowances and Tk107.4cr for pensions which are 58.42per cent and 14.49percent of the budget respectively.

Tk36.55cr, or 4.94per cent of the proposed budget, has been allocated for research.

Vice-chancellor Professor M Akhtaruzzaman said , “ We want to take place in world class universities and our university will play a vital role for the progress of the country.”

On the other hand ,  Treasurer Professor Kamal Uddin said , “ The budget is big than previous years but still it’s not enough as our numbers of students , teachers have been increased, we can’t  allocate enough money for the betterment of the students as at the end of the day the budget is not as expected.”
