Woman found dead in septic tank

Shariatpur: Police recovered the body of a woman from a septic tank in Chakad village of Nariaupazilaon Tuesday morning, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Iva Akhter, 20, wife of Delwar Choiyal of theupazilaand daughter of Abdul Mannan of Chandipur village in the sameupazila.

Being informed by locals, police with the help of members of local Fire Service and Civil Defence station recovered the body from the septic tank of an under-construction building inthe morning, said Aslam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Naria Police Station.

The victim’s grandmother, however, alleged that Delwar pushed Iva from the roof of the building and dumped the body in the septic tank.

Meanwhile, there were injury marks in the body, said the OC adding that a murder case was filed with the police station in this connection.

‘Kidnapped’ boy found buried

Kushtia: A minor boy who was reportedly kidnapped on June 8 was found buried at the courtyard of their neighbour at Malitha village of Mirpur upazila on Monday, reports UNB.

Police recovered the body of Deb Dutta, 9, son of Pabitra Dutta of the village and a Class-III student, from under the ground by a toilet of their neighbour Jahurul Islam at noon.

Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid on Jahurul’s house and recovered the body wrapped in a sack with his hands and legs tied, said Mirpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer SM Jamal Ahmed.

The victim’s father said two miscreants picked Deb up while he was going for tuition on June 8.

Later, in the afternoon of the day, the kidnappers called him over his cellphone and demanded Tk 50 lakh for his release, he said.

However, the mobile phone was found switched off since then and his minor boy remained traceless, Pabitra added.

Slain Jashore Juba League leader’s sister dies of stroke

Jashore: In a great tragedy, the sister of a Juba League leader, who was killed in an attack on Friday, has died of stroke here, reports UNB.

Shahnaz Akhter Shabana, 47, sister of Arafat Munnaf Liton, 40, former joint general secretary of town Juba League, suffered a stroke around 5pm on Sunday, said her brother Iqbal Munnaf Dilu.

She was first taken to a private clinic and then to Jessore General Hospital where doctors referred her to Dhaka.

Shabana, however, died on the way to Dhaka around1amon Monday, Dilu said.

Earlier on June 22, Liton sustained stab injuries in an attack on him at the local Juba League office on Ghop Central road of the district down.

A group of miscreants, numbering 25-30, stormed the ward-3 Juba League office around 10 pm and stabbed Liton indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured.

Being rescued by locals, the injured was taken to a local hospital. Later, he died on the way to Dhaka.

Two cousins killed as trees  fall on them in Pabna

Pabna: Two schoolboys were killed and another was injured as trees fell on them in the Hospital area of Sujanagar municipality on Monday evening, reports UNB.

The deceased were identified as Kishan Halder, 7, son of Bosu Halader, and his cousin Rupam Halder, 8, son of Basu Halder of the area.

Officer-in-charge of Sujanagar Police Station Shariful Alam said workers engaged by a contractor were cutting trees on the back side of Sujanagar Hospital for repairing a road. Several trees fell on a group of children while they were playing in a nearby field, leaving three of them injured.

They were taken to Sujangar Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared Kishan dead.

Rupam and Shimul Halder were then sent to Sadar Hospital where doctors referred the former to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. He, however, died on the way to the hospital.
