A court in Chandpur yesterday sentenced three people to death for killing a young man in 2013.
The condemned convicts are Akter Hossain, Khalilur Rahman and Russel Elahi alias Abdur Rahman of Haimchar upazila. They were tried in absentia.
According to the prosecution, Sohel Khan, son of Alam Khan of Bajapti in Haimchar, paid the convicts Tk 1.50 lakh in advance for buying a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in 2013.
At one stage of altercation over delay in handing over the three-wheeler, the convicts killed Sohel on April 16, 2013 and dumped the body in a char.
Police recovered his body the following day.
Victim’s father Alam Khan filed a case with Haimchar Police Station on April 24 over the incident.
Police arrested Akter over the murder but he jumped bail after his release from jail on bail.
