At least five people were killed in separate road accidents in Jhenidah, Mymensingh and Sirajganj districts yesterday.
Our Jhenidah correspondent reports: Three people were killed and seven others injured after a head-on collision between a bus and a human hauler at Sadhuhati intersection in Sadar upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased were identified as Raihan Uddin, 70, son of Eman of Pantapara village, Shahinur Rahman, 32, son of Tola Mandal, and Abdul Latif, 60, son of Zakir Hossain, residents of Keshtapur village.
Hasanuzzaman, sub-inspector of Jhenidah Dak Banglow Police camp, said the accident took place around 8:30 am when the bus hit the human hauler (locally known as Alam Sadhu), leaving Raihan dead on the spot and nine others injured. Among the injured, Shahinur and Latif died on the way to hospital.
Our Mymensingh correspondent adds: A schoolgirl was killed in a road accident in Modarpur area on Mymensingh-Netrakona road in Mymensingh sadar upazila yesterday noon. The victim was identified as Tanni, 9, daughter of Monsur Ali of village Modarpur. Tanni was a student of class II at a local primary school, police sources said.
Tanni died on the spot when a Netrakona bound truck hit her while crossing the road around 1pm, said Habibur Rahman, sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station.
Soon after the accident, local people put a barricade on the road for over two hours. On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said the SI. Police recovered the body. A case was lodged. In Sirajganj, a bus helper died on the spot and 13 others injured when the bus hit a roadside electric pole as the driver lost control over the straining at Sirajganj-Nalka road around 10am, reports UNB.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately, said Masud Parvez, officer-in-charge of Kamarkhanda Police Station.
On information, a team of fire fighters rushed there and recovered the injured, said Abdul Hamid, deputy assistant director of Sirajganj Fire Service and Civil Defense.
