The newly appointed Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Aziz Ahmed has taken over the charge of the Bangladesh Army from the outgoing army chief General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq yesterday. Aziz Ahmed succeeded General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq who handed over the charge to him through a simple ceremony at the Army Headquarters in presence of some senior army officials.
Earlier in the morning, Gen Belal was given Guard of Honour at the Senakunja. He also placed floral wreaths at Shikha Anirban at Dhaka Cantonment paying rich tributes to those armed forces personnel killed in the liberation war of Bangladesh. The outgoing army chief Gen Belal made best wishes to his successor and other army personnel present at the handing over ceremony and sought blessings for him.
As per the ritual, Gen Belal was given farewell in a motorcade. The military sources said, the newly appointed army chief Aziz Ahmed will adorn rank badge of General at Ganabhaban in presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today. The chief of naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Nizamuddin Ahmed and Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat will adorn rank badge of General to Aziz Ahmed.
