Miscreants hacked a ward councillor candidate in the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) polls in the Tin-shed area of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) yesterday evening, reports UNB. Victim Rafiqul Islam Dhali, councillor contestant from ward 28 and central vice-president of Bangladesh Chhatra League, said he went to the BARI around 7:30pm. Five men of his rival Zobed Ali swooped on him and hacked him with sharp weapons, he claimed. Later, locals rescued him while the attackers managed to flee. Dhali was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital. Officer-in-charge of Gazipur Aminul Islam said no case was filed in this regard.
