The qualifying round of the Dhaka Bank FIBA Asia Champions Cup Basketball of the South Asian region will start from today at the Dhanmondi Basketball gymnasium in the capital.
Besides the host Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka are the other participating countries in the five-nation competition.
Champions and the runners-up teams from this zone will move into the second round of the qualification stage for the 2021 final phase of the FIBA Asia Champions Cup.
However, India, despite the team of this region, earned the straight qualification to play in the second round being one of the top ranking countries in Asia while a total of 16 countries will play the final phase of the competition.
Bangladesh will take Bhutan in the opening match followed by Maldives will take on Nepal in the second match in the opening day.
AK Sarker, general secretary of the Bangladesh Basketball Federation (BBF) detailed all in a press conference held at the Dutch Bangla Bank Auditorium of Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) yesterday. BBF president Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Khondokar Anwar Ehtesham a top level executive of the Dhaka Bank, the title sponsors of the competition were also present.
