A total of 31 educational institutions, containing 400 teachers and other non-teaching staff, in the district are yet to get monthly payment order (MPO) facilities. Habakhali Adarsha Mahavidyalaya principal BM Bulbul Islam said: "I have been working in this institution as principal since 2000. This year 69 per cent of our students have passed the HSC examination. Expecting MPO facilities soon, I have not tried any other job. Now, I'm cultivating lands as additional work to maintain my family."
"A male child of us was born on March 17, 2007, but he died as I could not provide better treatment for want of money," he added.
Jakir Hossain, lecturer of the same college, said: "I have been working here for the past 10 years. I have crossed the age limit of getting government jobs. Had this college had been enlisted in MPO facilities, it would have been possible for me to start a family life. " CRM High School headmaster Korban Ali said: "The school was established in 2000. I have no other alternative means to maintain my family. The government can save us by giving MPO facilities." Deepa Biswas, lecturer of Narail Krishi College, said some of their students were getting government jobs, but they had been passing their days with much hardship. "It would have been better if I hadn't pursued higher studies," she lamented. Shahnaz Parvin Ripa, lecturer of Jurulia College, said: "I have started private tuition to survive."
Syed Shariful Islam Nantu, lecturer of Birshrestha Noor Mohammad College, said he had been serving the college for about eight years. "Our College was established 12 years ago in the native village of Birshrestha Noor Mohammad. We hear that the Prime Minister will consider the matter of providing MPO facilities to Birshrestha Noor Mohammad College, but there is no result. I hope that the coming budget will provide us with MPO facilities, otherwise I'll leave the job," he added. Every year, over 1,500 students enter the arena of higher education after passing the SSC and HSC from these educational institutions.
