SUST to reopen today after Eid, summer vacation
Sylhet: The academic activities of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) will resume on Sunday after Eid-ul-Fitr and summer vacation. Ishfaqul Hossain, registrar of the university, said that the academic activities were suspended from 20th May while the official activities from May 27. The students have already started to return to their dormitories.
BRAC University felicitates scientist for winning award
Hasibun Naher, a professor of BRAC University, was recently honoured with the prestigious science award in Austin, Texas of the United States for her research work in designing mathematical simulation model for Tsunami prediction. The authority of BRAC University recently felicitated its mathematics and natural science faculty member Hasibun Naher for winning the 2018 OWSD-Elsevier Foundation Awards for Early-Career Women Scientists in the Developing World. During her reception held at GDLN Centre on BRACUs Mohakhali campus, speakers praised Nahers contribution in applied mathematics, saying that basic research was crucial for the countrys development and the well being of people as well. BRACU vice-chancellor professor Syed Saad Andaleeb, who was the chief guest of the event, presented a crest to Naher in recognition to her achievement. Universitys pro-vice-chancellor professor Ansar Ahmed and MNS department chairman professor AFM Yusuf Haider, among other faculty members, students and staff were present. This year, Naher along with four other scholars from Cameroon, Ecuador, Guyana, and Indonesia, was awarded the OWSD-Elsevier Foundation Award. The Italy-based OWSD, elaborately Organisation for Women in Science for the Developing World, provides research training, career development and networking opportunities to women scientists throughout the developing world. The Netherlands-based Elsevier Foundation, on the other hand, provides grants to knowledge centered institutions across the world.
