Barishal Eid special service ends

Eid special river vessels service was ended yesterday night. The service was started from June 12. After celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr over 4 lakh people left Barishal for Dhaka in last four nights by 35 private launches and two state owned steamers buying even deck ticket from black market.

Md Mustafizur Rahman, port officer of Barishal, however, said that rush of Eid passengers are still prevailing here as number of passenger failed to board the launch and steamers and returned their homes as vessels left port before two hours of the scheduled time in last three days.

When this correspondent visited the launch ghat yesterday afternoon found a highest numbers of return passengers crowded in the ghat area and space of all the vessels filled up with the Dhaka bound passengers.

Passengers alleged that a section of launch staff and ghat labours took control the deck space and sold that to the passengers charging Tk 400 to 500.

Samsuddin Ahmed, Traffic inspector of Barishal Port, however, refuted the allegation. It is to be mentioned that, about 25,000 first clash cabin tickets of Eid special launches of Barishal -Dhaka route have already been sold out for five days before the Eid and five days after Eid. All the tickets of BIWTA Eid special rocket steamer services also been sold out.
