At least 48 Indian nationals, who have recently completed jail terms in Bangladesh, are waiting to return their motherland, said sources in the Bangladesh jail authority. The foreigners, now in different jails, would be sent back to their country in phases. In the first phase, 28 released prisoners would be repatriated to their home after getting clearance from the authorities concerned, the sources added recently.
Including the 48 Indians, there are a total of 137 Indian nationals now in different jails in Bangladesh as of May 30, according to Bangladesh jail authority statistics.
Sources said that 41 Indian nationals, including the body of an Indian national who died in a Bangladesh jail, have been repatriated to their country from 2016 to May 30 this year.
Talking to The Independent, a senior official of the home ministry’s Security Service Division said that all the released prisoners would soon be repatriated to their country through different land borders or airways soon. “It’s a continuous process for those foreign nationals who have completed their jail terms,” he added.
Among 28 released Indian prisoners, Satish Dev Barma (prisoner No-08/17), Philipas Dev Barma (prisoner No-09/17), Manjak Dev Barma (prisoner No-10/17), Bukhuk Dev Barma (prisoner No-11/17), Shailen Dev Barma (prisoner No-12/17) and Kethek Tripura (prisoner No-13/17) are now staying in Dhaka central jail in Keraniganj.
Suman Das, (prisoner No-01/14) is staying at Dhaka central jail-2 in Kashimpur and Md Jahid Sheikh alias Raju (prisoner No-06/14) in Kashimpur high security central jail.
Hori Bachchen (prisoner No-06/14) is in Jamalpur district jail; Kharando Marak (prisoner No-1000/16) in Sherpur district jail; Md Towhidul Islam alias Tony (prisoner No-01/17) in Rajshahi central jail; Puran Sing (prisoner No-03/17) in Chapainawabganj district jail; Basanta Roy (prisoner No-05/15) and Ismail Hossain (prisoner No-10/16) in Lalmonirhat district jail; Vobesh Chandra Sing (prisoner No-01/16) and Rajput Chandra Van Sing (prisoner No-01/15) in Nilphamari district jail; Karun Bisu Karma (prisoner No-04/17) in Dinajpur district jail; Md Nazir Rahman (prisoner No-3668) in Panchagarh district jail; Soya Pankhua (prisoner No-02/17) in Rangamati district jail; Md Sajjat Hossain (prisoner No-05/09) in Comilla central jail; Bachul Majhi (prisoner No-05/13), Hakim Mollah (prisoner No-03/17), Paromaser Marandi (prisoner No-04/17) and Siv Kumar Mohanto Sirbastu (prisoner No-05/17) in Feni district jail; and Raj Kumar (prisoner No-16/14), Khannuke Byella (prisoner No-03/15), Sebaji (prisoner No-10/15), Sree Gobindo Bihari (prisoner No-11/15),
Tapan Horami Nomo (prisoner No-13/15), Sri Paban Krisna (prisoner No-01/16), Golu Sing (prisoner No-02/16), Md Kashem Ali (prisoner No-03/16), Md Salam Khan (prisoner No-04/16), Suraj Sing (prisoner No-05/16), Budhay Roy (prisoner No-05/17), Sheikh Jahangir (prisoner No-06/17), Mohan (prisoner No-07/17), Md Yasin Loskar (prisoner No-08/17) and Zaglu Sing (prisoner No-12/15) in Jessore district jail.
Krishno babu Sing (prisoner No-01/17), Jakhi Mazi (prisoner No-03/16), Shitul Mal (prisoner No-04/16), Swapan Proshad (prisoner No-09/17), Mithu Bagdi (prisoner No-12/17) and Mozaffar Boidya (prisoner No-11/17) are in Kustia district jail, while Jotish Chowdhury (prisoner No-02/17 is in Chuadanga district jail and Bikrom (prisoner No-112330/15) in Barishal central jail.
Sources said that 10 Indian nationals have been repatriated to their home in 2016 and 28 more in 2017 after their release. So far, three released prisoners of the neighbouring country have been repatriated, they added.
Among the 16 Indian nationals who have been convicted prisoners, one is in Kashimpur high security central jail, one in Kishorganj district jail, two are in Netrokona district jail, three in Rajshahi central jail, two in Chapainawabganj jail, one in Rangamati district jail, two in Sylhet jail, three in Jessor central jail and one in Meherpur district jail.
Among the 73 Indian nationals who are under trial, four each have been kept in Dhaka central jail, Dinajpur district jail, Chattagram central jail, Cox’s Bazar district jail, Comillah district jail and Dhaka central jail-2 in Kashimpur. Five of the prisoners are in Lalmanirhat district jail, while seven each are in Sunamganj district jail and Jessore district jail.
Among the rest, two each were in Tangile district jail, Shariatpur district jail, Panchagarh district jail, Meherpur district jail and Rangamati district jail each; three each were in Satkhira district jail and Bogra district jail; one each was in Pabna district jail, Mymensing central jail, Naogaon district jail, Natore district jail, Chapainawabganj district jail, Jamalpur district jail, Khulna, Kustia, Magura and Bagerhat district; and three each were in Satkhira district jail and Bogra district jail till May 30 this year.
The extradition procedure requires various documents. These include a certified copy of the judgment of the prisoner concerned, health and mental condition certificates from doctors, a nominal roll from the jail where the prisoner is lodged, recent photographs, and certified confirmation that no other case is pending against the person in the country and that no appeal is pending against the present conviction.
