At least 37 people were killed and 108 others injured in road accidents in nine districts yesterday, reports UNB. Among the victims, 18 were killed in Gaibandha, six in Rangpur, three in Gopalganj, two each in Natore, Sirajganj, Faridpur, Laxmipur districts and one each in Narsingdi and Savar of Dhaka district. According to reports reaching the UNB news desk,at least 18 people were killed and 28 others injured as a bus crashed into a tree at Goruhati in Palashbari upazila of Gaibandha district around5:30 am. The accident took place when the bus hit the roadside tree as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving nine passengers dead on the spot and 37 injured, said Akhtaruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Palashbari Police Station.
Later, nine other injured died on the way to hospital. Of the deceased, eight were identified as Emdad Ali of Gangachara upazila in Rangpur district, Yunus Ali of Sadullapur in Sirajganj, Minarul Khan of Jaldhaka in Nilphamari, Masud Rana of Char Rajibpur upazila in Kurigram, Abdur Rashid of Mirpur upazila in Kushtia, Jahirul Islam of Boda upazila in Panchagarh, Rubel Mia of Tangail
district town, Akhtarul Islam of Birganj upazila in Dinajpur district.
In Rangpur,at least six people, including two women, were killed and five others injured as a truck hit a bus at Shayelashah Bazar in Gangachhara Upazila around2:30am.
The accident took place when the sand-laden truck hit the stationary BRTC double-decker bus, leaving six passengers of the bus dead on the spot and five others injured, said AbdullahHel Baki, officer-in-charge of Taraganj Highway Police.
Two of the deceased were identified as Nishat, 20, and Sajjad, 19.
In Natore, two people were killed and three others injured when a sand-laden truck hit an easy-bike in Alaipur area of the district town around7am, said Mohiuddin, station officer of Natore Fire Service.
The deceased were identified as Sulta Rani Debnath and Kanailal Debnath, residents of Sonapatil village of Naldanga upazila.
The injured were admitted to Sadar Hospital.
In Gopalganj, two motorcyclists were killed as a bus their vehicle after the bus driver lost control over the wheel on Gopalganj-Tungipara road in Ghonapara area of Sadar upazila around 7:45am, said Sub-inspector Shawkat of the Sadar Police Station.
The deceased were not identified immediately.
In another accident in Muksudpur upazila, van driver Lokman Sheikh was run over by a Dhaka bound bus while he was crossing Dhaka-Khulna highway at Dasher Hat in the upazila around 12:30pm.
Ten passengers of the bus were also injured as the bus drove into a roadside ditch after the driver lost its control over steering.
In Sirajganj, at least two people were killed and 19 others were injured following head-on collision between a truck and a bus on Dhaka-Bogura highway in Kaliakapur area of Raiganjupazila around 6:30am, said Abdul Kader Zilani, officer-in-charge of Hatikumrul Highway Police.
In Faridpur, Two people were killed and 20 others injured as a bus plunged into a roadside ditch on Dhaka-Barishal highway in Purba Sadardi area of Bhanga upazila around 9am, said senior station officer Saifuzzaman of Faridpur Fire Servic
In Savar, a man was killed and 20 others were injured as a bus hit a truck on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Turag area around 7am.
Jamal Hossain, in-charge of Aminbazar Police outpost, said that the accident took place when the bus hit the truck from behind, leaving one dead on the spot and 20 people injured.
In Laxmipur, a man and a woman were killed and another woman was injured following a collision between a truck and CNG-run auto rickshaw on Ramgati-Sonapur road in Sekherkillah area of Ramgati upazila early in the morning, said ATM Arisul Haque, officer-in-charge of Ramgati Police Station.
The deceased were identified as Milon Hossain and Sahara Khatun.
In Raipura upazila of Narsingdi, a motorcyclist, aged around 50 years, was killed after receiving severe injury in his head falling off his vehicle while giving side to a human hauler at Marjal Wander Park around 1:45pm, said officer-in-charge of Raipura Police Station.
