2 killed in Bhola road accident
Bhola: A man and a teenage boy were killed and six people injured following a collision between a human hauler and a trolley in Helipad area of Charfassion upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Md Mansur Talukder, 45, a resident of ward no 9 in Osmanganj union and Siam, 12, a resident of Aslampur union.
Enamul Haque, officer-in-charge of Charfassion police station, said the battery-run human hauler (locally named as Borak) collided with the goods-laden trolley in the morning, leaving Mansur dead on the spot and seven other people critically injured. Among the injured, Siam died on the way to hospital.
‘Smuggler’ held with 4 gold bars
Cox’s Bazar: Members of Coast Guard arrested a suspected smuggler along with four gold bars from Baroitoli area in Teknaf upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
Lt Commander B N Abdullah Al Maruf of Coast Guard said on information a team conducted a drive around 1am and arrested Abdullah, 28, from the area along with the gold bars weighing 660gram.
The seized gold bars were handed over to Teknaf police.
Mother ‘commits suicide’ after killing son

A woman allegedly committed suicide after killing her minor son at their residence in Sheuratoli village of Debiganj upazila on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Mamata Rani, 35, wife of Joydeb Roy and one and half month old son Ratul Chandra.
Quoting witnesses, Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Debiganj Police Station, said Mamata locked into a family feud with her husband in the morning.
Later in the day, she ‘mixed poison’ with mango juice and served it to her two children Ratul and Setu Rani, 6, as well as took herself in the night.
Being informed by the family members, locals took them to Debiganj Upazila Health Complex where Mamata and Ratul died.
A case of unnatural death was filed with the police station, said the OC.
Ten sued over PCJSS activist murder
Khagrachhari: A case was filed with Panchhari Police Station on Monday night over Parbatya Chattagram Janasanghati Samity (MN Larma or Reformist) activist Bijoy Tripura murder, reports UNB.
Victim’s wife Kalindini Chakma filed the case mentioning ten people’s names as accused including United People’s Democratic Front (Democratic) follower and Panchhari upazila chairman Sarbouttam Chakma, Logang union parishad chairman Pratuttior Chakma, upazila unit’s army commander unit Samajpoti Chakma, said Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Panchhari Police Station.
Meanwhile, police arrested one accused named Devdas Chakma from Nalkata area of the upazila on Monday night, the OC added.
Earlier on June 16, PCJSS activist Bijoy Tripura was shot to death by miscreants at Martila area in the upazila.
DUJ member injured in attack

Juba League (JL) activists on Wednesday attacked a journalist for reporting on drug abuse in Keshobpur upazila.
The injured has been identified as SM Habib, 45, staff correspondent of an online news portal Daily Newsline, who sustained severe injuries in the attack. Habib is a member of the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) and a resident of Baliadanga in Keshabpur.
Locals said Habib had come to a mobile phone repair shop at Amin Market in Keshabpur upazila around 12:30 pm when a group of JL men attacked him wielding iron rods, hammers and sticks, leaving him critically injured.
Locals recused him and he was admitted to Keshabpur Upazila Health Complex immediately, from where he was transferred to Jessore General Hospital as his condition deteriorated, sources added.
Syed Abdullah, officer in-charge of Keshabpur police station, said he was unaware of any attack on a journalist.

2 crushed under trains
Two people including a woman were killed after being crashed under trains in two separate accidents at Medinikanda and Amirganj in Raipura upazila on Wednesday, reports UNB.
One of the deceased was identified as Emdadul Haque, 35, from Baduarchar village under the upazila, but the identity of the woman aged around 25 could not be ascertained.
Assistant sub-inspector of Narsingdi Railway Police Shah Alam said Emdad died after being crushed under the Sylhet-bound Parabat Express train around 8am.
In another crash at around 9am, the unidentified woman was killed being hit by some a train on Dhaka-Chattogram rail road at Amirganj area.
On information police recovered the bodies from the respective spots and handed them over the identified to his family members, added Shah Alam.
