Economists and academics on Tuesday at a press conference at Dhaka University (DU) urged the government to increase allocation in education sector in the proposed budget, reports BSS.
Center on Budget and Policy of DU organised the press conference at Abdul Matin Virtual Classroom on the campus.
“Socio-economic development is not possible without skilled manpower. To create skilled human resource, it is needed more allocation in education sector,” said DU Vice-chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman.
Prof Akhtaruzzaman called for implementing the budget on time with proper management. “Effective measures have to be taken so that general people can get outcome of the budget.
Information about budget should be publicised before placing it in the parliament for evaluation and analysis,” he added.
Economist and former head of International Trade of Commonwealth Secretariat, UK, Dr. MA Razzaque, senior research fellow of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) Dr. Nazneen Ahmed, Chairperson of Department of Economics Prof. Dr. Shafique uz Zaman among others, addressed the programme.
