Cox’s Bazar: A total of 33,334 families have been awarded the ‘Prime Minister’s gift’ marking Eid-ul-Fitr this year in the district, reports UNB.
Disaster Management and Relief MinisterMofazzal HossainChowdhury (Maya) distributed the gift on behalf of the Prime Minister at Teknaf and Ukhia upazilas on Tuesday.
After receiving the gift, day laborer Syed Alam’s wife Khurshida Begum of Rajpalong union in Ukhia was so surprised and happy, she said “I could never have bought new dresses for both my daughters without the gifted money.”
Sultan Ahmed of same place said “What we are getting as gift is not important, rather we received a gift from Prime Minister that is the great achievement for us.”
Mofazzal HossainChowdhury Maya said “The Prime Minister is concerned about the local people along with the Rohingya refugees because she loves people and stands beside them.”
In the Tk10 crore-scheme, each recipient family got Tk 2,000 in cash, along with two packets of Aromatic rice, 500 gm milk, one liter oil, one kg sugar, one packet of Vermicelli (shemai), one bottle of Rooh-Afza, a Saree and a lungi.
It is unclear as to whether the scheme is being funded out of the PM’s personal funds or the state exchequer.
