Boat race draws large crowd

A traditional boat race was held with much enthusiasm at remote Bagahata village in Baniachong upazila of Habiganj district on Wednesday. It was organised on a haor [large shallow water body], near Bagahata village, 10 km away from Baniachong upazila headquarters and 25 km from Habiganj town. A large number of spectators from fur-flung areas like Habiganj, Sunamganj. Kishoreganj and other places gathered at the sun-drenched venue on the day.  A total of 6 teams participated in this competition. The Nikli team won  the title defeating the host team Bagahata.  A prize-giving ceremony was held after the competition. Champions received a refrigerator as fist prize while the runners-up were happy with a colour television.
