Rana Plaza screening stayed

SC full bench to hear review petition Sep 14

The Supreme Court has ordered to maintain a status quo on the apex court order on screening of Rana Plaza movie till September 14. A full bench of the Appellate Division will hear the review petition on that date.
The chamber judge’s court imposed the restriction just a day before the release of the movie at some cinema halls across the country.
Appellate Division Chamber Judge Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order yesterday after hearing a petition seeking review of the apex court order that had on September 6 stayed a High Court (HC) order imposing a six-month ban on the screening of a movie made on the collapse of the Rana Plaza building.
Bangladesh National Garments Workers Employees League president Sirazul Islam Rony filed the review petition alleging that some horrible scenes were not deleted from the movie in line with an HC directive.

The movie is centred on a woman named Reshma Begum, who was rescued miraculously on the 17th day of the Rana Plaza disaster in 2013 which killed 1,129 people, mostly female RMG workers, and left over 2,000 others maimed.
The film had been scheduled for release in cinemas on September 4. However, an HC verdict on August 24 imposed a ban on screening the movie for six months.
