Pacer Rajib not yet barred from playing NCL

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) disciplinary committee chairman Sheikh Sohel thinks that pace bowler Shahadat Hossain Rajib could play in the National Cricket League (NCL) since the matter for which he was absconding is not related to the cricket.
The pace bowler who played 38 Tests and 51 ODIs for Bangladesh, remained traceless since a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act against him and his wife on charges of assaulting their housemaid Mahfuza Akhter Happy on Sunday last. A Dhaka court accepted the case on the following day and directed the police to submit its report on the charges on September 12.
 “I think he can play cricket because the matter is not related to the cricket,” he told the reporters yesterday. “The board however will take ultimate decision. At the moment he (Shahadat) can take all the facilities from the board as because the board has not taken any step on the issue. But what move the board will take in the coming days, it can only be determined after discussions.”
Shahadat and his wife have been on run since the case was filed. The NCL however will start on September 18 but chances are slim for him to play here regardless of what the disciplinary committee chairman thinks. Sohel said the issue is related to Shahadat’s social and family and should not be a concern of the board given there is law and police to take care of it.
“I was out of the country for a long time. I got to know about the Shahadat issue from the media reports. This issue is not related to cricket rather it is his social and family issue. There is law to look after the incident. This is not related to cricket so I don’t think it is necessary for us to take any step,” said the BCB director.
