The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court yesterday scrapped a High Court verdict that had acquitted former BNP lawmaker Rasheduzzaman Millat in a graft case filed by the Anti Corruption Commission.
In response to an appeal petition filed by the government challenging the HC verdict, the three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Justice Najmun Ara Sultana gave the verdict. The apex court also asked the HC to hold further hearing on Rasheduzzaman’s appeal.
Following the apex court order, the High Court now has to hold a re-hearing on the appeal of Rasheduzzaman to examine whether the lower court verdict that sentenced him was correct or not, Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan, ACC counsel told reporters.
