At the moment, director Kabir Khan is one of the biggest sensations in Hindi films. His work is loved by millions across the world and many superstars of Indian cinema are ready to work with him in a jiffy. Khan has a beautiful knack of storytelling, especially when it comes to movies that highlight different aspects of India and Pakistan.
Just a few months back, he released ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, which has been widely appreciated by audiences and critics alike, not just for how the movie is made, but for the message of peace it depicts. In his latest offering, ‘Phantom’, Khan takes us by surprise by trying to create something the opposite of ‘Bajrangi’.
Spoiler alert: The plot of the movie, starring Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif, is unique in the sense that it tells the story of an Indian spy who travels all around the world and kills the terrorists who planned the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. The movie is based on the book, ‘Mumbai Avengers’ by Hussain Zaidi.
It is an action thriller, and some of the action scenes in the movie are praiseworthy. But the movie lacks in the suspense department _ 15 minutes into it, one can easily anticipate what’s going to happen next. The movie doesn’t have that intriguing feel that keeps an audience glued to the screen till the end credits.
However, the movie has received mostly positive responses from critics.
The film has a talented cast and performances by Sabyasachi Chakrabarty, J Brandon Hill and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub saves the ship from sinking. From the box office perspective, ‘Phantom’ is a moderate hit as the budget of the film is US$7.5 million, and so far it has earned over US$7.7 m.
Saif Ali has been actively working in the Indian film industry since 1992, and over the years he has grown to be a better actor. He is immaculate in his role. On the other hand, Katrina delights the viewers with her acting and dance skills.
