Interview with app developer Abullah Al-Mamun

Interview with app developer Abullah Al-Mamun

Please tell us something about yourself.

I completed my Honours degree in Computer Science and Engineering from University of Dhaka. I am now working at Therap BD Ltd.

How did you come into app development?

As I have mentioned, I studied computer science, so I usually work with computer software and other technological gadgets. I learnt about developing apps, but I do it as a hobby, out of interest.

Briefly tell us about your app ‘Advance Bangla Dictionary’.

In my opinion, there are different types of applications on Google play store, but there are very few about Bangla dictionary. And I did not find much quality in those. So, I told myself that there is need for a quality application on Bangla dictionary. Thus, I loaded information for the Bangla dictionary from Bangla Academy’s Abhidhan. I also added data from the Oxford Dictionary to make it more resourceful.

How about the response to your app?

Well, about the Bangla dictionary app, I am getting great responses.
So far, the app has been downloaded around 35,000 times and its rating is about 4.6 out of 5. Also, I am getting calls from different countries, including Korea and the Middle East.

What is the condition of app development in Bangladesh?

As I see it, the condition of app development in this country is not so good. Sometimes, we find some apps in play store which are not actually applications, but a soft copy of a book or something else. We need to develop applications according to the demand of users. There are different types of interface and facility on a smartphone, we need to utilise those when we develop an application. We need quality applications. For that, those who want to learn developing apps, they can take help from Google and other institutions as well.

Have you made any other app?

No, I haven’t. But right now, I am developing an app called ‘Expenditure Tracker’. It is all about our expenses in everyday life. Hopefully, it will be launched very soon.

What about your future plans?

Well, I have nothing big. I want to stay busy in my profession. As I love app development, I will continue with it. I will try to make different types of apps, depending on the demand of the users.
