The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday recommended modernisation and expansion of Cox’s Bazar Airport as heads of government from different countries and top officials of international organisations are visiting the district to see the situation of the Rohingya people, reports BSS.
The recommendations came at the 17th meeting of the committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its Chairman Dr Dipu Moni in the chair, an official release said.
Other members of the committee — Foreign Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali, Muhammad Faruq Khan, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, Raji Mohammad Fakhrul, Selim Uddin and Begum Mahjabin Khaled attended the meeting.
The committee urged the authorities concern to take necessary steps for modernisation of Cox’s Bazar Airport for smooth movement of passengers coming from foreign countries.
The meeting suggested the Foreign Affairs Ministry to take initiatives to ensure safe return of Rohingyas to their homeland. Besides, the committee recommended strengthening of diplomatic relations with Russia and China to resolve the Rohingya crisis.
