Newly appointed 18 additional judges of the High Court (HC) took oath yesterday. Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain administered oath to the judges at a ceremony in the judges’ lounge of the Supreme Court in the afternoon, a day after of their appointment. Both the Appellate Division and the High Court Division judges were present during the oath-taking ceremony, which was conducted by the Supreme Court Registrar General Zakir Hossain.
Earlier on Wednesday, President M Abdul Hamid appointed the 18 judges for a term of two-year in line with the Article 98 of the constitution. The newly appointed judges who took oath are justices Abu Ahmed Jamader, Md Mostafizur Rahman, Fatema Nazib, Md Kamrul Hossain Molla, SM Quddus Jaman, Md Atoar Rahman, SM Abdul Mobin, Khizir Hayat, Shashangka Shekhor Sarker, Mohammad Ali, Mohiudddin Shamim, Md Riaz Uddin Khan, Md Khairul Alam, SM Moniruzzaman, Ahmed Sohel, Sarder Md Rashed Jahangir, Khondaker Diliruzzaman, and Dr KM Hafizul Alam. With the new appointments, the total number of the High Court judges now stands at 98, according to the Supreme Court sources.
