15 �robbers� held

Police arrested at least 14 robbers and a ring leader from Bhola and Manikganj districts yesterday.
 In Noakhali, ring leader of robbers’ gang named Salauddin along with his nine associates was arrested by joint forces of police and coastguard from the River Meghna in Hatiya upazila of Noakhali yesterday.  Police also seized a boat used by them.   According to sources police and coastguard jointly conducted a drive from Tuesday night till yesterday morning and arrested Salauddin and his nine associates. With the advent of recent hilsha fishing season, sea robbers have become active in the Meghna River. They attack fishermen and loot fish and boats from them, the raid was conducted in wake of such incidents.   When contacted, officer in-charge of Hatiya police station Nurul Huda said during hilsha catching season several groups of sea robbers.
As a result, the joint team of police launched the drive during the last 24 hours.  A case was filed with Ilisha police station in this connection.   
In Manikganj, police arrested five alleged robbers in Shivalaya upazila of Manikganj early yesterday. Officer-in-charge of Shivalaya police station Md Rakibuzzaman said the robbers were arrested while they were preparing for a robbery at Birsrestha Motiur Rahaman ferry.
Police also recovered a huge quantity of country made sharp weapons and several mobile sets from their possession. Police sources said on information, a gang of robbers were holding a meeting around 1:30am to commit robbery at the ferry.
Sensing the presence of police officials, criminals tried to flee the scene. The criminals confessed to the police that they were the members of organised robbers syndicate, the OC added.
The arrestees were Jamal Malot, 45, Monakka Promanik, 43, Alauddin, 43, Rouf Sarder, 40, Amjat Hossain, 30, of Daulatdia village in Goalando upazila of Rajbari.
