A court in Mymensingh sentenced a man to death for killing his neighbour yesterday. The death row convict was Md Sohel Khan, 35, of village Panihata in Tarakanda upazila of Mymensingh.
According to the prosecution, there had been a long standing dispute between Monjurul Islam Khan, 45, of Panihata village and his neighbour Sohel Khan. On the day of the incident, when Monjurul was on his way home from a local mosque, Sohel and his men locked in an altercation with Monjurul over a land related issue. At one stage, they attacked Monjurul with sharp weapons, leaving him injured critically on October 5 in 2008.
He was immediately rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital but later, he died on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on the same day.
Victim’s younger brother Sadiqul Islam Khan filed a murder case with Tarakanda police station accusing three people including Sohel Khan.
After investigation police gave a charge sheet against Sohel.
Examining the witnesses and evidences, Johirul Kabir, additional district and session judge pronounced the verdict yesterday.
