Five people were killed and more than 50 others injured in a road accident on the Hatikumrul-Bonpara highway at Khalkula area in Tarash upazila Tuesday night.
Two of the deceased were identified as Badsha Mian, 38, a resident of Farid Pangashi village in Shahjadpur upazila, and Atab Ali, 35, of Bhadrokol village in Ullapara upazila.
Abdul Gani, sergeant of Hatikumrul highway police, said the accident occurred around 10:15pm when a Dhaka-bound bus of Shishir Paribahan from Rajshahi collided head-on with a truck.
A Rajshahi-bound bus of ‘Desh Travels’ plunged into a ditch as its driver lost control over the steering in impact of the collision.
The triangular accident left four people dead on the spot and over 50 injured. One of the injured succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.
