Police allegedly beat up and broke the wrist of a boy after detaining him on false charges last Friday. Shah Newaj Ahmed, alias Pranto, 13, is a class VI student of Faphor Polli Mongol High School. His father, Jahangir Alam, a contractor of village Puran Bogura, died some years ago.
Family members and Pranto said a team of the detective branch (DB) of Bogra, led by sub-inspector (SI) Alamgir Hossain, stopped Pranto in the Puran Bogura area at around 7.30pm on Friday. The boy was returning home after loading flaxy. The police searched Pranto saying that he has 4,000 pieces of Yaba tablets. "You bring them out quickly. If you do not give them, you will not leave," assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Tofiz Uddin said.
When Pranto said there were no Yaba tablets with him, the police became more annoyed and took him to the Azizul Haque Government College campus in a white microbus. The ASI severely beat up the boy with a stick after took him down from the microbus. His right wrist was broken and there were injury marks on his body.
The victim’s family alleged that the police were trying to force a confession that 4,000 pieces of Yaba tablets were under his possession.
