Some 500 workers of a garment factory fell ill after drinking water at their workplace at Konabari Jarun in Gazipur yesterday, reports UNB.
The workers of ‘Keya Knit Composite Factory’ took water after they joined work at 8am, said factory sources.
First, a female worker complained of dizziness and stomachache, and started vomiting. Later, other workers, mostly female ones, also complained of the same problems one after another. By noon, around 500 workers fell ill.
Most of them became unconscious at one stage. The sick workers were taken to several local hospitals while 15 of them were shifted to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College Hospital.
Dr Ahmed Sharif, director at Konabari Sharif Hospital, said no sign of poison was found in the bodies of the sick workers. “They might have fallen ill due to excessive heat and panic.”
