The present restaurant scene in Dhaka is offering foods and flavours from all over the world, as well as celebrating our traditional cuisine.
Thanks to some trendy new eateries, popular and rare local dishes are now available for us to experience from all over the country.
Quite recently, I visited such a place, named ‘Choi Jhal’ located in the capital’s Bashundhara residential area, and had the opportunity to taste some of our most basic and traditional items.
The menu, especially meat items, introduces us to special spices and cooking styles used in Khulna district.
For dessert, I picked firni (rice pudding), to be more precise, it was ‘gurer firni’, made with crushed rice and molasses. It had the delicate balance of sweetness and fine texture. It felt absolutely exquisite in my mouth. No doubt, it is the best firni you’ll find in Dhaka.
The interior of Choi Jhal is designed to give you a calm feel. From the simple glass top tables to the floor tiles _ all serve the purpose of ensuring a clean and relaxing atmosphere. It is a great place sit back and enjoy a nice, casual meal.
