Prof Samad joins as DU Pro-VC
Dr Muhammad Samad, a Professor of Institute of Social Welfare and Research of Dhaka University (DU), here yesterday formally joined his office as the new pro vice-chancellor (administration) of the university. Chancellor of the University President Md Abdul Hamid appointed him for the next 4 years under the Dhaka University Order, 1973, said a DU press release. DU Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman congratulated him at the VC office. Prof Muhammad Samad is the convener of DU Pro-Awami League Teachers body-Blue Panel. Prof Samad better known Kabi (poet) Samad is president of Jatiya Kobita Parishad. He earlier served as the VC of a private-run university named University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS) for 4-year tenure (2012-2016). The post of Pro-VC of DU fell vacant since September 4 of last year after the president appointed the former pro vice-chancellor (administration) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman as acting VC of the University.
CoU observes 13th University Day
CUMILLA: The authorities of Cumilla University (CoU) on Monday observed its 13th founding anniversary with a daylong colorful programmes on the campus. The programmes including procession and discussion were inaugurated by the university Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Emran Kabir Chowdhury, at 11 am. Teachers, officers, staff and students of the university brought out a colorful procession led by the VC, from in front of the universitys administrative building around 11:00am. At the end of the procession, a brief rally was held where VC Prof Dr Emran Kabir Chowdhury, Rabiul Awal Chowdhury, General Secretary of the Teachers Association, spoke among others. The CoU started its journey on Lalmai Hillocks on May 28 of 2006 with 4 faculties, 7 departments, 15 teachers and 300 students. At present, the University is consists of 6 faculties, 19 departments and 4 residential halls.
