KHULNA: The construction work of six Muktijoddha Complexes has been completed in six upazilas of the district. The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) has implemented the project. Work remaining in the metropolitan and in Dacope upazila is under implementation process, reports UNB. According to the LGED Office, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced to set up Muktijoddha complexes in each upazila soon after Awami League government came to power in 2009. The ministry of local government took a project according to the direction of Prime Minster. Each complex is built costing Tk 2.71 crore under this project.
The construction work in Koyra, Paikgachha, Batiaghata, Dighalia, Rupsa and Phultala upazilas has now been completed. In the meantime on March 3, Prime Minister has inaugurated those complexes during a visit to Khulna.
The work of metropolitan and Dacope upazila complexes has stopped for required land crisis. But LGED is looking for a suitable place for complexes and calling for tender.
The LGED authorities said the upazila level people will get various facilities from the modern complexes including well-resourced library, liberation war memorabilia, which will be kept in a room as a museum. Besides, people will be able to take shelter in the complex building during the disaster.
In the three-storeyed complex building, ground floor and second floor will be used for market where there will be seven shops on ground floor while six shops on second floor. Rent from those shops will be provided to helpless and destitute freedom fighters. The third floor will be used as the meeting room for freedom fighters and office rooms for commanders, the authorities added.
Talking to UNB, ASM Tariqul Hasan, LGED senior assistant engineer in Khulna, said the complexes have been implemented according to the Prime Minister's direction.
Professor Alamgir Kabir, commander of Muktijoddha Nagar Unit Commander, expressed his gratefulness to the Prime Minister for constructing such modern complexes for the freedom fighters. It was possible only for cordial Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
