HC issues rule against Pirojpur clinic occupants

UNB

The High Court on Tuesday issued a rule seeking explanation as to why the failure of the local administration to ensure security to Bijoy Krisna Hawladar's family and save his Surgicare Clinic and Diagnostic Centre from the occupants should not be declared illegal, reports UNB.

A bench of Justice Zinat Ara and Justice Kazi Md Ezarul Haque issued the rule. The rule also sought explanation as to why Bijoy Krisna Hawladar and his family, who own the half of the house, and his family would not get proper security for free movement. Secretary of Home Ministry, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Police superintendent and Mayor of Pirojpur, UpazilaNirbahi Officer (UNO) of sadarupazila, Officer-in-charge of sadar Police Station, Executive engineer of Power Development Board of Pirojpursadar, Jubo League Joint Convener of Pirojpur unit, MdObaidulHaque were asked to respond the rule within two weeks. Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh(HRPB) on Monday filed a writ petition with the HC in this regard after a national daily published a report over the matter.

The report said for past nine months the former vice-principal of Government Suhrawardi College in Pirojpur, Geeta Rani Majumdar, and her daughter had been living in a house without water and electricity connection.

Meanwhile, local authorities did not cut the connection rather local Juba League leader Md Obaidul Haque cut off the utility connections in a bid to occupy the house, victims alleged. Geeta Rani Majumdar and her family were passing days in fear on the fifth floor of the clinic building which was established by her husband BijoyKrisnaHawladar.

Later, Bijoy sold half of the property to ObaidulHaque while Obaidul planned to occupy the whole property, victims alleged.

Geeta Rani said the water and gas line has been cut off from her house since August last year, the occupants always threat them while going out or in the house. Her husband fell sick after he was found after being abducted in 2015 and taking treatment staying at one of their relative's house, Geeta said.
