Faridpur: A pall of gloom descended on the village of Charbrahmandi of Sadarpur in the district following the death of a soldier and proud son of the village in a car accident in Africa on Saturday, reports UNB.
Arjan Hawlader, who was enlisted in the Bangladesh military’s 34 East Bengal Regiment, was killed in a car accident in the Central African Republic where he was part of the Bangladeshi contingent in a United Nations Peacekeeping Mission.
He was survived by wife Chaina Begum, a five year old son Fahim Ahmed, mother Rahima Khatun and sister.
Arjan’s wife Chaina Begum said the last time they communicated was on a video call when Arjan was in a car going to camp.
After his father’s death, Arjan was the only earning member of the family.
District Commissioner of Faridpur Umme Salma Tanjia said they are contacting the concerned authority to bring the body back to the country and directed the local administration and representatives to stay beside the family.
United Nations and Bangladesh government will hand over the body to his family as quickly as possible through completing all the procedures.
Arjan was one of two Bangladeshi peacekeepers killed in the accident on Sunday.
