RANGPUR: There is no alternative to turning the huge population into human resources through building an illiteracy-free society to further accelerate the pace of national development in making a middle income country, reports BSS.
The views were expressed at a post-rally discussion organised by district administration and District Non Formal Education (NFE) Bureau in association with different NGOs to observe the International Literacy Day- 2015 here on Tuesday.
The day was observed through various programmes with the theme of ‘Literacy and Sustainable Societies’ here as elsewhere in the country and the world as a whole.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Md Rahat Anwar led a huge rally in the city streets with participation of officials and executives of different government and non-government organisations, teachers, students, professionals, sociocultural activists and local elite.
With Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education & ICT) Tania Tasmin in the chair, the Deputy Commissioner attended and addressed the post-rally discussion held at his conference room as the chief guest.
Divisional Deputy Director for Primary Education Mohiuddin Ahmed Talukder delivered welcome speech narrating objectives of observance of the day and tremendous success achieved in Bangladesh in reducing the rate of illiteracy in recent years.
Assistant Director of the District NFE Bureau Musfikur Rahman presented the keynote paper and narrated the massive steps taken by the government in turning the illiterate population into human resources through educating them.
