A test carried out by the Department of Narcotics Control confirmed existence of cocaine in another barrel of edible oil imported from Bolivia through Chittagong port in May this year. The department conducted the test following a directive of a court.
The report of the test done on the barrel no.59 reached the hand of the investigation officer yesterday.
The sample was tested in the laboratory of the Department of Narcotics Control in Dhaka.
When contacted, Md Kamruzzaman, assistant commissioner of the Detective Branch of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, told The Independent, “I have received the report of the sample test of the drum no.59. In the report signed by Dr Dulal Chandra Shaha, chief chemical examiner, and Md Abu Hasan, assistant chemical examiner of the Department of Narcotics Control, it was said that the existence of cocaine was detected in the drum with edible oil.”
Earlier, on September 6, a court of Chittagong ordered to have the drum no.59 examined by the Department of Narcotics Control.
As cocaine was detected in another drum (no 96) earlier, officials of the Department of Narcotics Control suspected there might be cocaine with edible oil in the drum no.59 too.
Following recommendation of the Department of Narcotics Control, the IO appeared before the court on August 27 and applied for a test to be done on the drum no.59.
The court responding to the plea ordered to collect sample from the drum.
On June 8, the container carrying the drums were opened and examined in presence of senior officials of police, Department of Narcotics Control, intelligence branch, customs intelligence and CPA.
However, the Department of Narcotics Control in the field-level examination conducted on the same day found no existence of cocaine.
So, the sample of the edible oil was sent to Dhaka for further test. On June 27, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate informed that the drum no. 96 with oil contained cocaine.
