BSS

The income tax zone of Khulna collected Tk 937.28 crore in the fiscal 2014-15, up by Tk 85.87 crore from that in the previous fiscal, but missed the target of Tk 1120 crore, reports BSS.
The zone had set a collection target of Tk 1120 crore, but the collection was to the tune of Tk Tk 937.28 crore from 1, 17,568 tax payers. Of them 82,418 submitted tax returns.
“The target could be surpassed with continuous efforts to enhance the number of taxpayers,” Sunil Kumar Saha, Commissioner of Tax, Khulna zone, said yesterday.
“We had set a target to collect Tk 1120 crore from 2, 20,933 tax payers in the 2013-14 fiscal, but we could collect Tk 851.41 crore,” he said.
He also said, “We will give honour with crest to 55 highest tax payers under the Khulna Income Tax zone on September 15 to be observed as income tax day.
A week-long tax fair will begin on September 16, 2015 at Fairway hall at Bangladesh Navy establishment (BNS Titumir) at Khalishpur area in
the city.
Deputy Commissioner of Tax, Khulna zone, who is also member secretary of tax fair-2015, Md. Shahidul Islam told BSS today that one- stop service center will be provided to assist the tax payers in the fair.
At least 50,000 tax payers are expected to submit their returns during the fair, he said, adding that the rate of income tax earning has been growing in the wake of bringing
simplicity in the tax realization system including e-tin registration together with developing easy relation between tax officials and taxpayers.
He said the growth rate is significant for the area covering the districts of Jessore, Khulna, Magura, Satkhira, Bagerhat and Jhenidah where there are big industries including Jute Mills, Shrimp Factories and Brick kilns.
“We have set a target to realize Tk 1425 crore from 2, 22,000 tax payers under 22 tax circles of Khulna zone in the current fiscal 2015-16. We are hopeful that the target would be achieved by the end of the fiscal,” he said.
He, however, said, “There would be no hesitation in taking actions against those identified as defaulters.”
He said the number of certificate cases, lodged so far, exceeded 200 in the zone.
