HT Imam, political adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, yesterday said that he will actively press for policy reformation for the co-location facility of the towers of the mobile operators.
"It will free the operators from being bogged down with the construction and maintenance of the mobile towers. Once they are free of those, they can concentrate on their services", said Imam while delivering his speech as the chief guest during the inauguration program of International Infrastructure Summit organised by Edotco Bangladesh Ltd at a city hotel.
The Advisor said that the tower business should not burden the operators any more. "It should be given to third party who has specialization in tower construction and maintenance".
He said, for a small country like Bangladesh which has land scarcity, co-location of mobile towers would be a very good solution.
"We have too much towers in our country. When I travel around the countryside, I see new towers are popping out every now and then", he said adding that instead of separate towers, co-location of mobile operators in one tower would be a better solution.
He said instead of mobile operators, designated third party should be given the responsibility of infrastructure management.
Steve Weiss, Chief Financial Officer of Indonesia Based Tower Company Portilendo presented the key-note paper in the seminar and discussed various issues about tower management.
During the day-long event, a panel session took place on achieving Digital Bangladesh dream and the technologies Edotco is working on to accelerate that goal.
A demonstration for modern infrastructure was also presented where a mock Monopole tower was being monitored by a live drone, camouflage tower and the state-of-the-art echo centre for real time monitoring of the sites, were displayed.
A monopole tower reduces the usage of designated land, especially in remote areas. The city tower, also known as camouflage tower protects the beauty of the city by blending into the surroundings in the form of multipurpose objects such as an LED screen stand inside a shopping mall.
During the event, Edotco Bangladesh Ltd signed an MoU with Confidence Steel Ltd of Bangladesh as the regional tower supplier
