The country’s textile sector earned US$ 128,203.71 million in six fiscal years since 2009-10, reports UNB.
Textile and Jute Minister Md Emaz Uddin Pramanik placed the statistics in Parliament yesterday replying to a scripted question from ruling Awami League MP Dilara Begum (Women Seat-20).
According to the statistics, the textile sector earned US$ 26,509.77 million in 2014-15 fiscal, while US$ 25,508.77 million in 2013-14, US$ 22,556.73 million in 2012-13, US$ 21,496.57 million in 2011-12, US$ 19,002.78 in 2010-11 and US$ 13,129.09 million in 2009-10 fiscal years.
Emaz Uddin said the government has set a target to earn US$ 28,447.57 million in the current fiscal year (2015-16).
In reply to another scripted question from AL MP Nizam Uddin Hazari
(Feni-2), the Textile and Jute Minister said Bangladesh exported 84.37 lakh bales (1 bale = 181 kg) in the last five fiscal from 2010-11 to 2014-15. But, the amount of exported jute was 111.08 lakh bales in the five fiscal years from 2005-06 to 2009-10, he noted.
Bangladesh exported jutes to Pakistan, Chine, India, Brazil, Ivory Coast, Vietnam, Korea, Russia, Djibouti, Nepal, Cuba, Germany, the UK, the USA, EI Salvador, the Philippines, Tunisia, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ethiopia, Japan, Thailand, Spain, Iran, South Africa, Turkey and Italy, the minister said.
