Human hauler driver stabbed dead
A human hauler driver was stabbed to death by unidentified miscreants at Bheripara intersection in Rajshahi city on Monday night. The deceased was identified as Proshanta Kumar Ghosh, 22, son of Swapan Kumar Ghosh and sometimes used to drive vehicle rented by local police station. Hafizur Rahman Hafiz, officer-in-charge of Rajpara Police Station, said a gang of miscreant numbering 4-5 stabbed Proshanta while the victim along with another youth Shakil where walking in front of the police line hospital around 9 pm, leaving him critically injured. The gang also beat Shakil, police said. After being rescued by locals, the duo was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where the duty doctors declared Proshanta dead. The reason behind the murder could not be known immediately, the OC added.
2,505 cases filed for traffic rule violations
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in a daylong drive on Monday filed 2,505 cases on charges of traffic rule violation. Traffic division in their simultaneous drives on the capital streets also realised over Taka 17.79 lakh as fine, said an official release. As many as 246 cases were lodged for driving on the wrong sides, 38 other cases for using hydraulic horn, four for using hotter and beckon light and eight others for using tinted glass. Some 63 cases, including 39 video cases, were lodged against drivers of different modes of vehicles on charges of talking over mobile phone while they were driving. It also dumped 24 vehicles and wrecked 479 others. Besides, 752 cases were lodged against motorcycles and 47 others were seized for the traffic rule violations.
2 held while circulating fake currency in capital
Police on Monday arrested two persons red handed while circulating fake local currencies in the capital’s Uttara area. Two persons, Shahriar, 25, and Swapon, 22, were arrested while they were marketing fake local currency from road no-19 under sector no-12 at Uttara around 5:30pm on Monday, an official release said. A case was file against the arrestees under Special Powers Act with Uttara Pashchim Police Station to this end.
1 killed as bus falls into ditch
A passenger bus plunged into a ditch killing at least one person and injuring 25 others at Banosree area on Rampura-Demra road in the capital yesterday morning. The accident occurred at about 9.30 am when the driver lost control over steering of the bus at Shekherjaiga in Banosree area, Sub Inspector Jewel Miah of Khilgaon Police Station told BSS. The bus of Swadhin Paribahan was heading towards Staff Quarter of Demra to Rampura Bridges, he added. At least one person was killed and 25 others were injured in the accident, he also said, adding that the bus was pulled out from the ditch and a body was found in the bus. The injured was rushed to different local clinics for treatment while identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
18 food factories, shops fined
District and upazila administrations and other entities concerned in Rajshahi expedited drives against food adulterations and irregularities in order to protect consumers rights. As part of it, district administration conducted a daylong mobile court in BSCIC industrial estate and found 12 vermicelli factories guilty of manufacturing food items in unhygienic condition. The court fined the factories Taka 1,26,800 and realized the fine instantly.
