Heavy rain in Tangail and Maijdi
More showers expected in northeastern Sylhet

Most Dhaka residents, in a slumber after taking Sahri for fasting, had to wake up to shut their windows hearing the distant rolling of thunder. There was a brief spell of rain with lightning. In Tangail, 89.8km away, 107mm of rainfall overnight left the town almost flooded till 6am yesterday, Met Office sources and residents reported. It was the highest amount of rainfall yesterday, followed by 63mm in south-eastern Maijdi Court. By contrast, it was only 19mm in Dhaka.
Yet the paltry rain left some of the city streets, such as those in front of the Arts Faculty of Dhaka University, nearly flooded. Otherwise, the morning shower washed the city streets and all of its trees clean of dust. It came as a relief for many residents who had to go out on business or journey to their workplace. For morning walkers, it provided a big relief.
Only puddles of water at places were a bother. Meteorologists at the Dhaka Met Office indicated there would be more rain, particularly in the northeastern region of Sylhet, that may have heavy falls causing flash flooding at places.
Arif Hossain, a meteorologist, attributed this to a westerly low now hovering over either Bihar or Gangetic West Bengal and their adjoining areas, with a trough extending to the north Bay. The cool air was converging with the warm air from the Bay, rich in moisture, and this was generating the rain along with strong winds at times.
