Woman strangled by husband
A woman was strangulated to death allegedly by her husband at Muktirbag in Dakkhin Keraniganj early Saturday. The deceased was identified as Sharmin, 23, second wife of Nasiruddin. Quoting locals, Monsur Ahmed, sub-inspector of Dakhshin Keraniganj Model Police Station, said that Nasir strangulated his wife to death over family feud. Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. Police also arrested Nasir from the spot. Besides, victims father Abdul Rahim filed a case with the police station in connection with the murder.
5 cops withdrawn in Ctg
Five policemen, including two sub-inspectors of Sitakundu highway police, have been closed to district police lines for releasing a drug trader after embezzling yaba seized from his possession. They are two sub-inspectors Mohiuddin and Adam Ali and three constables Mamun, Imam Hossain and Mostafa of Baro Aulia thana of highway police. Earlier on May 7, a 5-member team of the Baro Aulia Highway Police led by SI Mohiuddin in a drive detained a young man Md Mostakim, 36, son of Taslim Uddin Khandaker of Baranda village in Gazipur district, along with 21,800 pieces of yaba tablets worth around Tk 66 lakh from a bus on Dhaka-Chattogram highway. However, the team released Mostakim taking the yaba from his possession. On information, a team of detective branch of police arrested Mostakim when the bus reached Dhaka. Later, SI Mohiuddin was closed to Cumilla Highway Police on May 7 immediately after the incident came into light. The withdrawal decision was taken on Friday night as a probe committee found the policemen guilty.
