‘OIC-IRCICA Chair’ to be set up at DU

A new Chair titled ‘OIC-IRCICA Chair’ will be set up at the Department of Islamic History and Culture at Dhaka University (DU) to promote education and research on Islamic history and civilization.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the DU and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA) was signed recently at the 45th OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in the city for setting up the Chair. DU Treasurer, Prof Md Kamal Uddin and Director General of IRCICA, Dr. Halit Eren signed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides.

Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman was present on this occasion, said a press release of DU. According to the MoU, DU and IRCICA will work together to establish peace and harmony among the people of different cultures and faiths across the world. They will jointly organise seminar, workshop, conference and meeting. Besides, they will provide scholarship to DU students for higher study as well as offer awards of appreciation for valuable research works in the fields of Islamic history culture and civilization.

Seminar on entrepreneurship, innovation held at IUB

The School of Business of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a seminar on ‘Entrepreneurship, innovation and future readiness of Bangladesh’ on IUB campus at Bashundhara in the capital on Wednesday, says a press release.

Kazi M Aminul Islam, Executive Chairman, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), was the keynote speaker of the seminar.

The programme started with welcome address given by Prof M Omar Rahman, Vice-Chancellor, IUB. Among others, Towhid Samad, chairman, Board of Trustees, Chittagong Independent University and Trustee Syed Mahmudul Huq also put their valuable remarks.

In his presentation Mr Islam highlighted various issues of ntrepreneurship focusing on Bangladesh perspective. He unfolded every aspects of entrepreneurship and showed the ways how the young generation needs to think differently and become successful entrepreneur instead of running after the typical jobs or services.

Later, there was a panel discussion participated by Dr Faisal Ahmed, Chief Economist, Bangladesh Bank; Dr Zia U Ahmed, Chairman of Venture Investment Partners Bangladesh Limited; Tariqul Islam Chowdhury, CEO, Google Business Group and Mr. Shariful Islam, Founder and Director, Bangladesh Brand Forum.

Trustees of the university, deans and heads of different schools and departments, senior members of the faculty and administration and a large number of students attended the seminar.
