Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has termed the inauguration of ‘National Institute of Advanced Nursing Education and Research (NIANER)’ as Bangladesh's historic moment in the health education sector, supported by KOICA, reports UNB. KOICA's Vice President Jinho Song mentioned that this project is embodied with Korea and Bangladesh's shared commitment for cooperation and development and ensured closer ties between both countries for decades to come.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday launched Bangladesh's first-ever and highly anticipated postgraduate nursing education institution by unveiling the plaque of inauguration stone at Mugdapara in the capital.
The inauguration was attended by both Korean and Bangladeshi high profile dignitaries including Eun-Young Kim, Director General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Korea, Mohammed Nasim, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Saber Hossain Chowdhury MP, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee of Ministry of Jute and Textiles, Zahid Maleque, MP, State Minister of Health and Family Welfare, and Md. Serajul Huq Khan, Secretary, Health Services Division of MoHFW.
NIANER was initiated by the PM of Bangladesh during her visit to Korea in May 2010.
In light of this, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Korea, KOICA has committed to collaborating with the Government of Bangladesh to launch the project titled “Establishment of the National Institute of Advanced Practice Nurses in Bangladesh” with a budget of US$13.75 million in 2012.
Korean government through KOICA has established a full package of MSc nursing education program by establishing an academic center inclusive of dormitory facilities, auditorium, research centre, library along with six MSc curriculum development- adult, maternal, psychiatric, child & community health nursing- equipment supply, capacity building training and nursing administration.
The aim is to produce skilled nurses by providing advanced higher level nursing education and research, said KOICA.
