Tigers begin preparation for Afghanistan, Windies series

Sports Reporter

With two important series coming up, Bangladesh national cricket team is all set to begin their formal practice session to prepare them adequately. Bangladesh will start the busy cricket season with a three-match T20 International series against Afghanistan. The series will be held in Afghanistan’s adopted venue in Dehradun, India. According to Mushfiqur Rahim, it would be good for them to start the season with a T20 series since they did play an international series in this format not much ago.

After the series against Afghanistan, Bangladesh will go to West Indies for a tour, consisting Test, ODI and T20 series.

The formal practice session marks the cricketers’ presence in ground after the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL). Most of the players however took part in the BCL following the Nidahas Trophy T20 Tournament in Sri Lanka in March. Some of the players like Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad who got injured before or in the midst of BCL, recovered well enough to join the practice camp.

A total of 31 players were included into the preliminary squad, from which two of the players—Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman won’t be the part of the came due to their commitment in IPL. The players were asked to report to Strength and Conditioning coach Mario Villavareyen at 9 am today at the National Academy Ground.

“The fitness camp will go on for a week. Then the skill camp will start once the other coaches will join the camp,” Villavareyen said.

Local trainer Iftekharul Islam will accompany Villavareyen in the camp while physio Thihan Chandramohan is scheduled to reach Dhaka today to join the camp straightway.

Even though there was no practice schedule, almost all of the cricketers started coming to Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium from a week ago for different purposes. The likes of Tamim, Mushfiqur, Mahmududullah, Mehidy Hasan Miraj have been here for rehab while Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Rubel Hossain though didn’t bowl, took part in gym session regularly.
