Will Middle East become the graveyard of global imperialism?

Will Middle East become the graveyard of global imperialism?

Almost a decade ago an American columnist predicted in an American journal that that the world imperialism now headed by America is showing all the symptoms is slowly going towards its doomsday. He expressed a fear that the Middle East will be its graveyard. The present world situation indicates that this prophesy may prove to be true. Before the collapse of the Soviet empire Yeltsin became its leader ousting moderate Gorbachev. Yeltsin’s madness could only be compared with America's present president Donald Trump. In the name of the safety of the Russian people he started a dangerous game with the-then Soviet's unity. He invaded the Duma (the parliament) with army and forced the parliament members to support his so-called reform policy. The crumbling of the Soviet empire started during his time and ended with his downfall.

Donald Trump became American President with a policy of isolating America and reviving white jingoism among its large number of white population. When the B movie actor Ronald Regan became the president of America, some of his close associates observed that Regan thought he was not the President of America, but playing the role of a President on the stage. Like Regan the present president Donald Trump perhaps thinks that he is not the real president but acting as the president in his reality show. So naturally he could not understand what dangerous path he took by withdrawing America from the nuclear deal in Iran. He said that the Iranian deal made by his predecessor Obama, "Is a horrible one-sided deal".

He said, "US is safer now the deal's off" and he will impose the highest level of economic sanction on Iran. This decision was not endorsed by other signatories of the Iran deal i.e. Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany. The foreign secretary of Britain Boris Johnson has told the House of Commons, 'We'll stick by deal'. One British Daily put a headline of the news, 'World leaders united against Trump's decision'. The paper said, 'The world's major powers were almost unanimous in their condemnation of Donald Trump's scrapping off US support for the Iran nuclear deal. China and Russia also supported this stand. Trump's only supporter are Israel and Saudi Arab'. A French commentator said, 'From a global power America is very speedily going back to be an isolationist state, what they were before the First World War'.

There is also a personal factor. It looks like Trump is determined to erase whatever Obama has done during his presidency for the wellbeing of American people and the people of the world at large. His two contributions-the healthcare of American people and the nuclear deal with Iran both are the targets of Trump. Trump's madness irritated Obama and he warned American people 'tearing it up could leave the US facing a choice of a nuclear armed Iran or another war in the Middle-east'. In my opinion, in both the cases America will face another Vietnam or Korea if they initiate another war in the Middle-east.

Two things are very clear in Trump's decision. Firstly, he wants to help Israel and its aggression. Already he has shown his partisanship for Israel by declaring Jerusalem as Israel's territory defying the world's opinion. Secondly, Trump is encouraging the alliance of Saudi Arabia and Israel to have a joint proxy war against Iran. Saudi Arabia is now facing a social revolution and in the face of this revolution the most powerful Saudi Prince Salman has adopted two very dangerous contradictory policies.

In the name of modernization he has allowed opening Cinema houses in Saudi Arabia and has allowed women to exercise some of their rights including driving. By these policies he wants to diminish social unrests and to divert people's attention from his alliance with Israel and anti-Iran policy. For this purpose Saudi Arabia is igniting the old Shia-Sunni conflict, pretending that they are the saviour of Sunnism from the aggression of Shiite power. In reality the Saudi Prince is not following a policy of liberalization but opening the door of the decadent western culture so that people's anger is diverted from the reality.

Some observers fear if the combined forces of the European states and China and Russia cannot stop Trump's war mongering policy then after scrapping the nuclear deal he will encourage Israel and Saudi Arabia to attack Iran. Trump will try to play a safe role under the mask of a peacekeeper but in reality his policy will only escalate war in the Middle East dangerously. This will force China and Russia to stand behind Iran and Syria and some European states also oppose the escalation of a war in the Middle East for their own interests. North Korea's Kim who is now most eager to make a nuclear deal with America will be discouraged to do so seeing the end result of America's nuclear treaty with Iran. Trump's dubious policies will perhaps show how unreliable his American friendship and commitments are.

Some European observers compare Trump's present attitude with Hitler's attitude before the Second World War. Hitler made the Munich pact with Britain just before embarking on the Second World War. On the first phase of the war Britain had to endure the fascist onslaught along with France but after 7 years of war Britain was victorious with the help of mainly the Soviet Union. Hitler occupied almost the whole Europe but though he was militarily a superior power than Britain, he was defeated by the moral power of the allied forces.

If Donald Trump embarked in a new war in the Middle East directly or indirectly, his military might will not work. The moral power of the Middle Eastern people is on the rise. They are militarily weak at present but their moral power will triumph ultimately against Donald Trump. Hitler's violation of the Munich treaty ultimately brought the destruction of Germany and Donald Trump's violation of the Iranian nuclear deal may bring the same fate for his America. If that happens, the prophesy of the American columnist made a decade ago will come true and Middle East may become the graveyard of American imperialism.
