Easy bike driver found dead

NATORE:  Police recovered a body of an easy bike driver from Halsa area in Sadar upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Asad Ali, a resident of Kamardiar area in the district town.

Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said locals spotted the body under the Choyana bridge in the morning and informed police. Later, police recovered the body. The neck of the body was tied with a rope, said the OC. Asad went missing on Friday afternoon after he went out of home along with his easy bike.

Clinker-laden cargo sinks

in Meghna, 2 hurt

CHANDPUR: A cargo vessel carrying 1000 tonnes of clinker capsized in the middle of the Meghna River at Katakhali Majherchar area in Haimcharupazilaon Friday evening, reports UNB.

The vessel 'MV Millennium-1 was going to Narayanganj from Chattogram, said its master Shamsul Haque.

"My ship was hit by 'MV Shafatul Haq-2' when it was in the middle of the river around 7 pm," he said. However, two staffs-- Nurrannabi, 25, and Nayon, 23-sustained injuries during the incident, he added. Being informed police rushed there and rescued 12 inmates of the vessel, said Ranojit Roy, officer-in-charge of Haimchar Police Station.

‘Thief’ lynched in Joypurhat

JOYPURHAT: An elderly man was reportedly beaten to death by a mob in suspicion of theft attempt at Ghashuria village in the district headquarter on Friday morning, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Yasin Mia, 61, of Tajpur-Banpur area in the same upazila.

Inspector Md Maminul Haque of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station said locals caught Yasin along with equipment used to commit burglary and gave him a good beating branding himself as a thief. Later, Yasin was taken to Joypurhat Modern District Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries in the afternoon, police said.

Yaba tablets seized in Jashore

Police, in several drives, seized 248 yaba tablets from different areas of the district in last 24-hour ending yesterday morning. Ansur Rahman, in a press release, issued on Saturday said the police made the arrest and recovery following its ongoing drive. ‘The drive will continue,’ the press release added.

17 held on various charges

HABIGANJ: Police, in regular drives arrested 17 people, including 11 wanted accused, from different areas of the district in last 12-hour ending at 9am yesterday morning, reports BSS .

Additional Superintendent of Police ASM Shamsur Rahman said they were picked them up from different areas of the district on different charges.

Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added.
