Bangladesh Open Golf kicks off at KGC

AB Bank Bangladesh Open Golf, an event of Asian Tour, was formally inaugurated at Kurmitola Golf Course in the capital yesterday.

The  Bangladesh Golf Federation (BGF) senior vice-president  and Commandant of Defence Services Command Major General AKM Abdullahhil Baquee inaugurated the four day tournament formally yesterday at a simple ceremony. He release a bunch of balloons with sponsor house executives and officials of Asian Tour to mark the opening of the tournament. Local premier golfer Siddikur Rahman along with a few foreign participants were also present at the greens of Hole No 1.

Bangladesh Golf Federation General Secretary Brig Gen Kazi Shamsul Islam, tournament director Brig Gen (retd) Abidur Reza Khan, BGF joint secretary Brig Gen (rted) Md Obaidul  Haque, AB Bank Managing Director Mashir Rahman Chowdhury and deputy managing director Sajjad Hossain were also present during the opening ceremony.  

AB Bank is sponsoring the Bangladesh Open for the first time providing US $ three lakh as prize money. Bashundhara Group patronised the first three tournaments in a row.

Over one hundred leading pro-golfers drawn from 25 countries of four continents- America, Europe, Australia and Asia are taking part in this prestigious tournament which is rated as No 3 tournament of world golf.

Like previous occasion, the hosts are looking forward to Siddikur Rahman and Zamal Hossain to win the laurel for the country. Bangladesh have fielded 41 pro and six amateur golfers direct into main round. Recently Zamal Hossain finished runner-up in the PGTI Tour tournament at the same venue with a Thai contender ran away with the title.

A Pro-Am tournament was held at the KGC course yesterday as a warm-up tournament for the Bangladesh Open.

Earlier on Monday evening, Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hassan Papon unveiled the tournament in presence of  high officials of Bangladesh Golf Federation and AB Bank Limited.
