Shakib claims Kohli first time in T20

Just ahead of the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, an interesting stat grabbed the attention of all, who closely followed the match live in front of television. The fact was about the RCB skipper Virat Kohli’s weakness against left-arm spin bowling and it was shown that he had just strike rate of 100 against Shakib Al Hasan in IPL. The stat also revealed that he had recently been strong against pace bowling but against spinners, he was little bit shaky and was dismissed four times in this season. But still Virat Kohli, unarguably the best batsman of this era, had strike above 130 at least against spinners and pacers but not against Shakib Al Hasan.

Considering the stat, it was revealed before the game that Shakib Al Hasan could be the nemesis of Virat Kohli. And rightly it was so. Shakib had dismissed Kohli in the match to pave Sunrisers’ way to defend just 146. However the pitch was entirely conducive to the spinners but Kohli was in imperious form.

As he faced Shakib in the match for the first time, he struck 15 runs in that over including three straight four and sixes before giving first two balls dot. It appeared Kohli was in his way to correct his stat against Shakib.

Kane Williamson removed Shakib from the attack after that Kohli onslaught but brought him back again after four overs when Indian skipper dominated other spinners including Rashid Khan in style.

This time the fight between the batsman and bowler lasted only three balls with Kohli made just one run before he got a leading edge, in an attempt to pull a delivery in which Shakib gave little width. So the overall result was Kohli took 16 runs off nine balls against Shakib as he scored 39 off 30 finally.

And now Kohli’s strike rate against Shakib soared above 100. He may correct his stat against Bangladeshi left-arm spinner to a bit but much to the joy for Shakib, it was the first time in T20 cricket that he got the wicket of Virat Kohli. Earlier he dismissed the Indian captain for four times in ODI and one time in Test. Shakib however could never get the wicket of Virat Kohli in T20 International but if the latter’s struggle against him is anything to go by, he may not be far away to grab his wicket in that format too.

Shakib’s performance in both batting and bowling against RCB was his season’s best although his 32 ball-35 and two for 36 in fours overs was not enough to win him the man of the match award. It went to Sunrisers captain Kane Williamson.  Bangladeshi fans though made outburst in social media after Shakib was snubbed again, the ace all-rounder perhaps won’t mind it, specially after taking the wicket of Kohli, that was the game changer.
